In this paper, we describe the experience of assigning various web server-side programming projects. Most of these projects were developed for two undergraduate computer science courses: Design of Database Systems and Software Tools. Web server-side technologies used in these projects include CGI using Perl, Microsoft's Active Server Pages and Allaire's Cold Fusion. The merits and suitability of using these technologies on programming assignments are discussed together with support issues and recommendations.en_US
