Abstract

This collection contains 9 linear feet of reports on reviews, studies, presentations, meetings, experiments, requirements, guidelines, constraints, capabilities, surveys, and plans, dated September 24, 1970 through October 4, 1984 and arranged chronologically. The documents were authored primarily by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the European Space Agency (ESA), and their support contractors. Many documents appear to have been collected and contributed by Gary W. McCollum, Space and Life Sciences Directorate, Life Sciences Experiments Division, Payloads Systems Support Branch, who served as technical monitor on NAS9-14589, Life Sciences Payloads Planning Studies.

The collection also includes several large folders of multi-dated documents from Mr. McCollum and Dr. Dallas Evans, Program Scientist, Science and Applications Directorate, Earth Observations Division, and a folder of German engineering drawings. Subjects include Space Station, Space Shuttle Sortie Workshop, Concept Verification Testing (CVT), Spacelab, Payload Carrier Simulator (PCS), Life Sciences Payloads, Spacelab Mission Simulation (SMS), Spacelab Mission Development (SMD), General Purpose Lab (GPL), Orbiter, Biomedical Experiment Scientific Satellite (BESS), Biological Specimen Holding Facility, Launch Site-II, Shuttle Infrared Telescope Facility (SIRTF), Common Operational Research Equipment (CORE), Environmental Control Life Sciences (ECLS), Principal Investigator Support Facility, Orbital Service Module, Flight Data File, and Europe's Retrievable Carrier (EURECA).
