Abstract

The Bay Area Medical Wives Club (BAMWC) was established by the wives of the physicians in the Bay Area of Houston, Texas, for the holding of meetings and events for physicians’ wives. The early chair members of the club were Sandy Basso, Anna Mae Boyer, Sharon Dillard, Ann Wager, and Mary Sue Anton. Mary Sue Anton was a past president of the Bay Area Medical Wives Club, and the donor of this collection. The BAMWC involved varies social and education activities—particularly involving the St. John Hospital of Nassau Bay fundraising event gala, held from 1984 to 1994. Mary Sue Anton was the St. John Hospital gala committee volunteer member. The St. John Hospital was run by the Houston-based Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word until 2014. The Hospital became the part of Houston Methodist Hospital system in 2014, renamed as Houston Methodist St. John Hospital. Another renaming came in 2018, when it was changed to the Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital. The collection is composed of a scrapbook, correspondence, newspaper clippings, newsletters, agenda, miscellaneous documents, and oversized materials, documenting from the period of 1972-1994. The documents are Bay Area Medical Wives’ newsletters, events information, newspaper clippings, and St. John Hospital Gala fundraising events.
